STOP THE FAA arrived this evening ! And it looks great! As soon as I pressed the "approve proof" button it became available on my CreateSpace store. It's available there now, ready for customers to order.
Now the book promotion begins.........

The interior and cover files for Stop the FAA have been reviewed and are printable in their current state.
The cover file contains images at 150 DPI, which will appear blurry and pixilated in print. For optimal printing, we recommend all images be at least 300 DPI.
You may upload new files or you may proceed with the publishing process using the current files.
If you would like to upload new files, you may wish to review the Submission Requirements, available at: https://www.createspace.com/Products/Book/Submission.jsp
If you wish to proceed with the publishing process using the current files, your next step is to order your book's proof copy. To do so, log in to your CreateSpace member account, click on the shopping cart icon corresponding to your book and follow the on-screen instructions. Please note you will need to click "Confirm Order" for us to receive your order. Your proof copy will be printed and shipped to its final destination.
If you are completely satisfied with your proof copy when you receive it and are ready to make your book available for sale, log into your createspace.com member account and click the edit (pencil) icon corresponding to your book. Review your book's information for accuracy and click "Approve Proof" to make your book available for sale. Your book will soon appear for sale through the selected distribution channels.
If you are not completely satisfied with your proof copy when you receive it, you may make any necessary changes to your files, upload them again and order another proof after those files have been reviewed.
So, what to do? I want the book ASAP but don't want a bad pix. I don't have another pix at better resolution so I'll just get a proof copy this way. I also revised a copy of the cover art with a plug for this website rather that a picture at all. I wanted the little picture so readers could couple the words with the face, Patsy said it was egotistical. I'll see how it looks. Can always upload new cover art anytime, I guess.

The book is uploaded! Wow, that was an accomplishment for an old fart like me.

Whew! The book is written, assembled, table of contents built, etc. I wrote it in Microsoft Word 2000 and did the cover in Corel Draw 8. It's amazing how many re-do's it takes, I'd get it done, then change something, then the pages wouldn't come out per the TOC, then do it again…..

I created an account on CreateSpace. The basic account is free but I went the other $39 for the "Pro Plan" which pays better royalties. The break even is just a few books, I hope I sell more than that.

October - November 2009
I discovered "Print on Demand". There are a number of companies that can print one book or a thousand, as they are ordered. I've settled on CreateSpace since they are part of amazon.com so anything they do will immediately be available from amazon. And the royalties are real from day one! So I've been working actively putting the thing together.
I found three books on amazon that appear to be worthwhile.
AIMING AT AMAZON by Aaron Shepard
HOW TO PUBLISH YOUR BOOK WITH BOOKSURGE FOR LESS $$ by Edwin Scroggins
PLUG YOUR BOOK by Steve Weber.
Scroggins has the nuts and bolts of putting the whole thing together in great detail on Word. How and what to list on each page of the frontspiece, entering section breaks to make the table of contents and page numbering behave, and much more.
Shepard has lots of info on making the most of amazon, I'm only beginning to absorb that.
Weber is why I'm writing this diary and putting it on the website. In fact, he is the reason for the site - it's a way to keep the reader in the loop. There is an unbelievable amount of information on promoting the book with how-to examples.
I've seen a number of recommendations for print on demand books by Dan Poynter, haven't read any of them yet.
I also bought an old copy of Adobe Acrobat 5.0, the files have to be submitted in PDF format.
1992 - 1996
I wrote a monthly column for General Aviation News & Flyer titled THE OTHER WING. These columns became the basis for the book. While writing a book is possible, getting it published isn't, so the project hung in limbo until POD.
